Birmingham: The first-ever Knanaya Arts Festival, titled ‘Thekkans Fest’, organized by Knanaya Catholic Missions UK, will be held on Saturday, April 18, at Bishop Milner Catholic College in Dudley, near Birmingham.
Around 600 participants from fifteen Knanaya missions and mass centers across the UK are expected to compete in various artistic events. The festival aims to promote traditional Knanaya art forms and foster the cultural and artistic growth of the Knanaya Catholic community in the UK.
The event will feature competitions in 16 categories, showcasing the creative talents of participants. Among the major attractions are the ‘Knanaya Mannan’ and ‘Knanaya Manka’ competitions, which will be conducted in two rounds.
Competitions will begin at 9:30 AM across four venues and continue throughout the day. The prize distribution ceremony is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
Hundreds of attendees from various missions are expected to participate and enjoy the cultural programs. The host team, Birmingham Christ the King Mission, along with the organizing committee, is making extensive arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
The main organizing committee includes Fr. Shanju Kochuparambil, Benny Mavely, Sojan Thomas, Sherry Baby, and Mabel Anu. Coordinators from all fifteen missions are actively involved in the preparations.
Lifeline Protect Mortgage and Insurance is the main sponsor of the event. Registration for participants and entry for spectators are completely free. A variety of food stalls will also be available for attendees.
