DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS: KCS Chicago celebrated Onam 2026 with great enthusiasm at the Knanaya Community Center in Des Plaines. More than 500 Knanaya members and families participated in the celebration, which brought together tradition, culture, music, friendship, and community spirit in a festive atmosphere.
The celebrations began with a traditional Onam feast. This was followed by a colorful Onam procession led by Mahabali. The procession was made more vibrant with Thalappoli and Muthukuda, organized under the leadership of KCS Women’s Forum Executive Committee members Shanil Vettikatt, Jinu Nediyakalayil, Jane Mundaplakil, Mannu Thirunelliparambil, and Denny Thuruthuvellil. The energetic Chenda Melam presented by the Chicago Chenda Club under the leadership of Jinoy Kavalakkal added further excitement to the festivities.
A graceful Thiruvathira performance by members of the Women’s Forum added to the festive spirit. The beautifully arranged floral carpet (Pookkalam) prepared by the Women’s Forum Executive Committee reflected the rich tradition of Onam and provided participants with a wonderful setting for photographs.
A special photo booth arranged by KCS was a major attraction for both children and adults. Popular singer Charles entertained the gathering with a selection of melodious songs, adding to the joy and excitement of the celebration.
KCS Secretary Shaji Palliveettil delivered the welcome address. KCS President Jose Anamala, KCCNA Secretary Vipin Chalongal, KCCNA Regional Vice President Babu Thaipparambil, and Liaison Board Chairman Teddy Muzhayammakal offered felicitations. KCS Treasurer Tina Neduvampuzha served as the Master of Ceremonies. KCWFNA Regional Vice President Anita Panayapparambil and Legislative Board Chairman Sijo Puliyorkunnel were also present.
Former KCS President John Elakkat inaugurated the celebrations.
A special award for the first Knanaya newborn born in 2026 and eligible for KCS membership was presented to Jimmy and Stephanie Thannikuzhappil. Philip and Chinnamma Njaravelil, who sponsor the award every year, continued as the sponsors this year as well.
As part of the celebration, the KCS Karshakashree Awards were presented in recognition of the dedication and hard work of farmers in the Knanaya community.

KCS Chicago Onam 2026 was a vibrant celebration of tradition, culture, unity, and community spirit. With a traditional Onam feast, Mahabali procession, Thalappoli, Muthukuda, Thiruvathira, Pookkalam, music, and award presentations, along with the enthusiastic participation of more than 500 people, the celebration became a memorable occasion for the Knanaya community in Chicago.
