Chicago: The ‘Hands of Mercy’ food drive, a compassionate initiative aimed at supporting those in need, concluded successfully in Chicago on April 19. The program was launched on Divine Mercy Sunday at St. Mary’s Knanaya Catholic Church and was organized under the leadership of the Mission League unit, highlighting the parish’s strong commitment to social responsibility.
Conducted in collaboration with Uncle Pete’s Brown Bag Ministry (UPM), the drive collected a large number of food packets, which were distributed as lunch to the residents of the Franciscan Outreach Shelter Home in Chicago. The enthusiastic participation of parish members helped exceed expectations in the number of brown bag meals prepared.
Each food packet included two meat sandwiches, boiled eggs, fruits, water, and snacks. Through UPM’s distribution network, these meals reached various food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and rehabilitation centers across the city.
The initiative was inaugurated by Father Aneesh Mavely Puthenpurayil on Divine Mercy Sunday. Awareness activities and coordinated distribution efforts further strengthened community involvement and support.
Mission League leaders expressed their gratitude to all parish members who extended their hands in compassion to the needy. As the name ‘Hands of Mercy’ suggests, the organizers noted that the mission of spreading care and service to the community was truly fulfilled through this initiative.
