Chicago: The Cherupushpa Mission League unit of St. Mary’s Knanaya Catholic Church Chicago organized a heartfelt and memorable Mother’s Day celebration this year, highlighting the love and gratitude children hold for their mothers.
The main attraction of the celebration was a special poster competition for children based on the theme “My Mom, My Blessing.” Children from the Holy Childhood Ministry, Mission League, and Teens Ministry enthusiastically participated in the event, creatively expressing their affection and appreciation for their mothers through art and messages. Participants were instructed to submit original hand-drawn posters on A4 sheets, and special prizes were announced for the best entries in each category.
Following the Holy Mass on Sunday, May 3, Mission League President Isaac Mattathil introduced the details of the competition to the parish community. Emphasizing the greatness of motherhood, he quoted Proverbs 31:28:
“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”
He reminded the faithful that mothers are God’s precious gift, embodying love, care, sacrifice, and spiritual strength within the family. He also encouraged fathers to spend quality time with their children in preparing beautiful posters dedicated to their mothers, thereby strengthening family bonds.
As part of the Mother’s Day celebration, children presented specially prepared personalized bookmarks carrying loving messages to all mothers in the parish. The distribution began with Mission League leaders presenting these meaningful gifts to their own mothers, adding a touching and emotional dimension to the event.
Organizers noted that the program became a beautiful occasion to honor motherhood and express gratitude and love toward mothers. The celebration left lasting memories in the hearts of everyone who attended, reminding families of the warmth of relationships and the depth of unconditional love.
The programs were coordinated under the leadership of Mission League unit members Isaac Mattathil, Shobin Kannampally, Abigail Kannachamparambil, Elizabeth Panickaparambil, David Kalappurackal, and Joshua Kizhavullil. Parish Vicar Fr. Siju Mudakkodiyil, Mission League Spiritual Director Fr. Aneesh Maveliputhenpurayil, and CML Unit Directors Jojo Analil, Biby Nedumthuruthi Puthenpurayil, and Surya Karikkulam also actively guided and supported the children in organizing the event successfully.
