Houston: The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was celebrated with great devotion at St. Mary’s Knanaya Catholic Forane Church in Houston. The feast-day liturgical celebrations began at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 9, with Bishop Mar George Pallipparambil, Bishop of Miao Diocese in India, serving as the main celebrant.
In his homily during the Holy Mass, Bishop Mar George Pallipparambil highlighted the special role of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Christian life and in the growth of the Church. He reminded the faithful that Mary’s example and intercession continue to serve as a source of guidance and inspiration in daily life.
Following the Holy Mass, Bishop Mar George Pallipparambil, as the chief guest, performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Horizon Center, the new Sunday School building being constructed behind the church.
Vicar Rev. Fr. Abraham Mutholath and Assistant Vicar Rev. Fr. Joshi Valiyaveettil concelebrated the Holy Mass and participated in the associated ceremonies.
The feast celebrations and groundbreaking ceremony were organized under the leadership of trustees Saji Marangattill, James Vadakkekara, Sabu Karukaparambil, Nithin Vattamattathil, Sr. Reji SJC, and Bibi Thekkanatt. A large number of parishioners participated in the celebrations.
