The passing of Prof. T. M. Joseph leaves a deep void in the academic and human landscape of Kerala. A distinguished educationist, researcher, and innovator, he combined intellectual brilliance with rare humility.
My association with Prof. Joseph goes back to 1986, during my brief pastoral service at Thamarakkadu(Archdiocese of Kottayam) .From our first meeting, I sensed in him a blooming scholar eager to explore the world of ideas and truth. What began as an acquaintance soon grew into a deep friendship and a bond of mutual respect. He became both a confidant and a mentor to me, and in many ways, our lives intertwined through years of conversation, collaboration, and care.
We often shared long evening discussions filled with intellectual vigor and quiet laughter. Together, we journeyed to meet Archbishop Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry — a meeting that profoundly shaped his faith journey and his connection to the Knanaya community. Later, when he was in Japan, and me in New York as the Spiritual Director of KCCNA, encouraged him to write on Knanaya identity and heritage, and he responded with the same enthusiasm that marked all his scholarly work.
Prof. Joseph, a rank holder from St. Thomas College, Pala, pursued Political Science under Dr. Cyriac Joseph, who later became Vice-Chancellor of M.G. University. His academic career was crowned with service as Principal of both Newman College and Nirmala College, Thodupuzha. His administrative strength, moral courage, and quiet dignity during troubled times revealed the depth of his character.
In friendship, he was loyal and compassionate; in adversity, he stood unbroken. We supported each other through our hardest days, bound by a trust that only true friendship can offer. His calmness, resilience, and steadfast faith even amid illness continue to inspire me.
Prof. T. M. Joseph was a man who turned every challenge into strength. He touched countless lives, leaving behind not just knowledge, but kindness and wisdom. To me, he was not only a scholar and leader, but a dear friend whose presence enriched my life beyond words.
May his soul rest in peace, and may the light of his life continue to guide all who were blessed to know him. Pranamam. Joseph Sir, R. I. P
