Toronto: Rev. Fr. Mathew Meledath has been appointed as the new Chaplain of the Directorate of Knanaya Catholics in Canada, the ecclesiastical body established to serve Knanaya Catholic faithful permanently residing in Canada. The appointment was made by Mar Jose Kalluvelil, Bishop of the Syro-Malabar Diocese of Mississauga, in consultation with Mar Mathew Moolakkatt, Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Kottayam.
At the time of his appointment, Fr. Mathew Meledath was serving as Vicar of St. Stephen’s Knanaya Catholic Forane Church. A native of Madambam under the Archdiocese of Kottayam, he completed his priestly formation at Vadavathoor Seminary and was ordained a priest on December 27, 1999, by Mar Kuriakose Kunnassery.
With more than 25 years of pastoral experience in India and the United States, Fr. Mathew Meledath brings extensive ministry experience to his new role. Along with his chaplaincy duties, he will also serve as Pastor of St. Mary’s Knanaya Catholic Church, Toronto, and Director of the Holy Family Knanaya Catholic Mission, Ajax; St. Stephen’s Knanaya Catholic Mission, Calgary; and St. Pius X Knanaya Catholic Mission, Edmonton.
