Chicago: Anil Mattathikunnel, a dedicated member of Chicago St. Mary’s Knanaya Catholic Parish and a prominent figure in the parish’s music ministry, was honored by the parish in recognition of his exceptional contributions to sacred music and song production.
Having led the St. Mary’s Choir for nearly fifteen years, Anil Mattathikunnel has played a significant role in enriching the parish’s liturgical and devotional music. The recent felicitation was held in appreciation of his creative initiatives in writing, composing, and producing devotional songs, while intentionally providing platforms for Chicago-based singers.
The honor was bestowed during the parish Christmas Carol celebrations. Parish Vicar Rev. Fr. Siju Mudakkodiyil and Assistant Vicar Rev. Fr. Aneesh Maveliputhenpurayil presented him with a ceremonial shawl, while Sabu Kattappuram, representing the trustees, offered a bouquet.
Anil Mattathikunnel made his entry into music production in August, coinciding with the parish’s 15th anniversary, by writing and composing the parish song “Anayaam Daivajaname.” The song was officially released as part of the anniversary celebrations. He later released the Christmas carol “Unniyeshuve Kaanaan,” a widely appreciated production created entirely with singers from Chicago, which garnered attention beyond the local community.
During the same liturgical season, he also released two additional devotional songs connected to the Nativity celebrations, further earning acclaim. All these musical works were released through the popular YouTube channel “Voice of Adam.”
Expressing his appreciation, Rev. Fr. Siju Mudakkodiyil acknowledged Anil Mattathikunnel’s committed service to the music ministry, noting that his efforts have significantly strengthened faith-based musical initiatives within the parish. Joby Panayaparambil, leader of the St. Mary’s Choir, also praised Anil for prioritizing opportunities for local singers, describing the initiative as a meaningful and commendable contribution to the Chicago Knanaya community.
