Reception to Mar Thomas Thennat; Celebration of the 200th Meeting of AV Nagar Koodarayogam & Feast of Dukhrana.
A grand reception was accorded to Mar Thomas Thennat, Missionary Bishop of the Diocese of Gwalior, who hails from the Knanaya Community of Kerala. The ceremony was held by the Koodarayogam of A. V. Nagar, under the auspices of the umbrella organization, Delhi Knanaya Catholic Misssion, on Saturday, 29 July 2017. A. V. Nagar Koodarayogam marked its 200th gathering on that auspicious day. Crowd flew in from all corners of the National Capital Region to witness to the historic function.
Mar Thomas Thennat was received by A.V. Nagar Koodarayogam and Mr.Biju Palakan, program coordinator, at5pm. Solemn High Mass officiated by Mar Thennat and concelebrated by five priests was celebrated at 5.30 pm. After the Holy Mass, a Public Meeting was held presided over by Mr. K.C. Joseph, President, DKCM. Fr. Shinoj Vellayickal gave the Welcome address. Binoy, Secretary to A.V. Nagar Koodarayogam, presented the Report. Felicitations were offered by Fr. Chackochen Vandankuzhiyil, Diaspora-in-charge; Fr. James Aruldos, Parish Priest, St. Luke’s, A.V. Nagar; Fr. Jacob Thadathil; Sr. Shobhita SJC; Mr. Raju Parapallil, Secretary to DKCM; and Dr. C. T. Abraham, ex-President, DKCM. Vote of thanks was delivered by Jaimon, President, and A.V. Nagar Koodarayogam.
A solemn Procession with the statue of St. Thomas with the accompaniments of drummers, decorated umbrellas and a thronging crowd was taken out to Defiance Colony, where a stage was meticulously prepared and decorated for the concluding benediction.
Mar Thomas Thennat mentioned in his key note address that the Knanaya Community was on the forefront of Missionary activities all over the globe. It has produced seven Missionary Bishops including two Archbishops and an Apostolic Nuncio. The function attracted a large gathering of people from all 29 Koodarayogam spread over the NCR.
AV Nagar Koodarayogam was formed 16 years ago by the Knanaya families from Sadique Nagar & AV Nagar in South Delhi. They aspire to impart their distinct tradition, culture and devotion to their posterity. At the moment there are 32 families in AV Nagar, who meet regularly once a month to make sure that their progeny follow their tracks diligently. Miss Ashmi Shibu was felicitated for her academic excellence by Mar Thomas Thennat.
