Kannur: The Celebrations in connection with the commemoration of the Archdiocese of Kottayam ended with the call to preserve and defend the cultural traditions of the Knanaya community remaining faithful to God. The function was organised at Lourdes Church, Madampam on the 107th Anniversary of the establishment of Kottayam Diocese by the Decree “Universi Cristiani” of Pope Pius X on 29th August 1911. The meeting was inaugurated by Mar Mathew Moolakkattu, the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kottayam. He said the the poor and marginalized in the society should be the beneficiaries of the Church ministries and the new generation should learn from the faith and commitment of the forefathers of the Malabar Immigration. Those who spoke in the meeting include Mar Joseph Pandarasseril, the Auxiliary Bishop, Fr.Michael Vettikatt (Vicar General), Stephen George (KCC President), Daisy Pachikkara (President, KCWA), Dr.Jose James (Secretary, Pastoral Council), Fr.George Kappukalayil (Vicar, Madampam), Fr.Abraham Parambett (Director, Pastoral Centre Sreepuram), Babu Kadhalimattom (KCC, Malabar Region President), Thressiamma V.T. (Directress, Caritas Secular Institute), Melbin Puliyamthottiyil (KCYL President).
The Flag Procession organised by KCYL started from St. Sebastians Church, Payyavoor at 9 AM. Dr.T.C.Thankachan led the Seminar on the mission of the Laity in the family, parish and society. It was followed by the presentation of reports by various pastoral commissions . Discussion and planning was held on the future plans and Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
The Meeting also honored Fr.Joy Kattiyankal, Chris Lukose Naduveettil, Delta Kurian Mangalathil, Johnish Wilson Adhiyapillil, Reji Thomas Kunnuparambil, Sunny Mattakkara, Kochikunnel T.C.Abraham, Stephen Pushpamangalam , Melbin Biiju Poovathinkal, Jereena John Njarakattil, Jisna John Ilamplakkatt, Tresa Wilson Ramachanatt, Irene Mathew, Aleena Elizabeth Joy, Delna sunny, Arsha John, who excelled in Art, Literature,Science, Education and Agricultural sectors. The Thanksgiving Mass was offered by Mar.Mathew Moolakkattu and those who participated in the meeting include the priests, sisters, members and representatives of Pastoral Council and Pastoral Commissions, officials of various organisations and all Parish Council members of Malabar Region.
